Things fall apart, the center cannot hold

[The following letters are not as anti-war as they are anti-American or idiotic. What bothers me is not that Americans are opposed to attacking Iraq. What bothers me is that instead of making a simple, rational case, they attack the U.S. as an imperialistic bully led by hair-trigger psychopaths. The real reason to refrain from attacking Iraq is that Saddam Hussein is a cornered rat with mass destruction weapons. These anti-war people, in every case I've seen, slander the country, the president and the capitalist system as if they had been brainwashed in a Maoist camp. Of course, many of these people claim to be conservatives. But in truth, they are intellectually incompetent. They don't even know that they are repeating worn out Stalinist lies about America's ruling class. I want readers to see all this. I want them to know what enemy propaganda looks like, even when it wears a supposedly patriotic mask. -- Editor]

It's late and I'm exhausted.  As such, I should not be writing this critique of your opinions, without a proper explanatory and for that I do apologize. But the impulse was strong after reading your diatribe and incredible prejudice and hypocrisy.

So here it is: you are one very very naive man, or one big phony.

Raimondo is right on about this self serving, Chicken Hawk and Skull & bonesman administration. These Nazi-like jerks that call themselves advisors and one of them a leader, who have seen not a day of war or went out of their arrogant way to avoid service, would not blink about sending thousands to a most certain disaster, and for WHAT? Don't kid yourself, or stand up and tell the truth: Sadam does not threaten us. SADAM was a damned good buddy to previous administrations. Why you know they sold him all the stuff they now whine about and as we witness the nauseating exercise, they now hypocritically don't dare tell the American people about, adventures with Iraq. You know it was no good opportunists who tricked Hussein into Kuwait and took advantage of that confounded opportunity to justify US existence in the region, for all the reasons Raimondo and other writers have well documented, as well as a few in government and academe.  Since when has it become unpatriotic or crazy or Leninist, or small minded, to criticize one's government in this country? It seems you are more the Leninist and serious problem to a free system, which we are losing because of pat regurgitated crap that mindsets like
yours spew.

I love my country but detest the perverts and warmongers that lead it to an abyss, both politically and economically.  I guess people of your ilk, who would prostitute yourself to remain in some comfortable and sanctioned mainstream, must first see years of blood, destruction and body bags, as in the time of the failed Vietnam fiasco. Will you eat your words then, after years of Iraqi occupation, wars all around and hundreds of deadly acts of retaliation against Americans and allies, or will you say like that half-bright monster about the thousands of dead Iraqi children dying from mainly US backed Iraqi sanctions: yes, its' worth it if that's the price we must pay. No, laying a medieval siege to Iraq and stealing its oil as the spoils of war, is not the stuff of any worthy civilization: it is the act of a failed civilization dreadfully in decline.

Most sincerely,

ac

All these crimes and sins committed by the Americans are a clear declaration of war on Allah, his Messenger, and Muslims. And ulema have throughout Islamic history unanimously agreed that the Jihad is an individual duty if the enemy destroys the Muslim countries.... On that basis, and in compliance with God's order, we issue the following Fatwa to all Muslims:

The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies -- civilian and military -- is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it.... We -- with God's help -- call on every Muslim who believes in God and wishes to be rewarded to comply with God's order to kill Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it.

THE ISLAMIST DECLARATION OF WAR

Oh Jeff,

Yeah, right, you got it! America's policy is a gift to the world and especially the poor and suppressed should look up to the U.S. as their ultimate liberator. And it has been like this for the past century or so, I guess. Unfortunately, a couple million or so has been directly or indirectly killed in the name of U.S. interests since world war II. And mind you, this is not mentioning those, who simply died of hunger and disease due to the present world trade "order", the various sanctions (in the name of freedom and humanity, of course!) etc. But just go on Jeff, tell the world, that Bush is not the oil men's guy (what about Rice, Cheney, by the way?). Maybe one or two readers out there might even believe in this childish stuff...

It was NEVER about  terrorism, the Russians or Chinese. This is what it is about now and into the future. wake up jeffrey!

II PETER 2:10

Dear Mr. Nyquist:

I read your article and others and probably will not be reading anymore. I am not going to debate with you on whether you or right or wrong. Because I know I will not be able to convince you otherwise. I am just expressing my opinion and I will hope that you will give it some thought.

War is never the answer and never will be the answer. Say Saddam has weapons (which has not yet been proved), wait until the inspections have occured and prove that.  He has doen bad things but US was responsible for those acts also. Who has given weapons to Saddam? Let me ask you who sells more weapons in this world? Pakistan got weapons for helping US on its war on terrorism. What a great way to reward Pakistan? (Then India turned around and brought weapons from Israel.  India and Pakistan are as stupid as they come. Spending money on weapons, when there are millions starving. Is the US responsible also?)  If US politicians are so concerned about peace, why cannot you put a proposal in the security council banning sale of all weapons?

Saddam has not done anything in the last 10 years. He is surrounded. He might try to deceive and try to get his hands on weapons of mass destruction. So what? You think the next guy who will come into power will not. There is lot of hatred against the Americans in that part of the world. This war is only increasing it. We do not need this hatred. If Saddam has weapons, he is more of a threat to his neighbors than US. Let the neighbors push for a war against Iraq.

Nelson Mandela, the Pope and whole lot of countries do not want this war. There is no need to rush.  If it takes another year to finish the inspections, so be it. Monitor everything through satellites and spies. Just make absolutely sure that war is necessary.  There has to be a justifiable immediate threat to US (because US is the only country intent on this war ... of course, UK is just following along).

Just because American soldiers are in war does not mean, one should not be criticizing for what could be a really big mistake. Who knows, that this war could actually bring America to it knees?  Look at all the great civilizations - Rome, Egypt, India, China - everyone crumbled. UK, France and Russia had the biggest following in the recent history. Now it is US. I do not know what the future entails... but these people who you crticized could be the patriots which this country needs to hear?  I have not gone to those websites and probably will not.

We have already killed thousands of civilians in Afganisthan. Now it is Iraq.  Then it will Korea (US was planning to attack anyway...and of course, this is one of the country listed in the "axis of evil").  Then Iran. Then Saudi (Of course, they financed the whole Sept 11). Then Lebanon, Syria... I guess, we can keep on going.. I am not sure whether Bush would follow the sequence which I suggested.  I don't know what faith you subscribe to or may be you do not subscribe to any faith. All the great leaders, philosphers
and Gods suggested "peace."  I am guessing you are a Christian and I never read anything in the Bible which said "If someone hurts you ... you have to seek revenge" or "someone could kill you ... so you should kill them first."

Jesus gave himself on the cross, when he absolutely did not have to. He could have easily performed a miracle. My interpretation is that - he died on the cross because he wanted to show that love and peace are more important than life itself. Of course, I could be wrong and there could be all kinds of perceptions.

Also, I do not know whether you have seen the poverty and sickness in other
countries.  I have.

I have no answers.  I ask myself "what can I do?" and "what do I believe?". I believe in peace. I believe that I should show my other cheek, when someone slaps me. I believe that we should have a self-sustaining country and lead simple lives.  I will try to do all these things to the best of my abilities.

Good Day!!

Would you wipe with the water and wash with the towel?

THOMAS FULLER, Gnomologia, 1732

Jeff... Sorry, can't accept that advice [that Scott Ritter has no credit]. I'm well aware of the charges made about Ritter. Farah has made sure EVERY nasty report has been on his (pro-Sharon) "IsraelNetDaily" website. Have you read JUSTIN RAIMONDO'S piece about it? Probably not. Appeared a few days back on Antiwar.com. Check archives.

"Flip flop?"

From all I have considerably read about Ritter's past and present positions on Iraq (he has always opposed Saddam and his gang, no different now), his sympathies came to be with the Iraqi PEOPLE and the unjustified horrors he directly observed inflicted on them through the often Draconian and senseless ("dual use" hypodermic needles and graphite pencils long denied) "economic" sanction punishments dealt them by sadistic people in our government over many years. More disastrous, but similar to the "collective punishment" inflicted on the Palestinian population by brutal Sharon.

With pervert Clinton, it was Albright and her bunch who thought it "worthwhile" half a million Iraqi children died to somehow "punish" Saddam. Seems to me we now have a new crew of amoral sadists led by Perle and Wolfowitz "advising" Bush to "sock it to them," no mercy to ANY Iraqis.

Perle, Wolfie and their equally amoral partners, Cheney and Rumsfeld, practiced that merciless attitude of widespread punishment to Afghans, killed an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 civilians in addition to Taliban, and never did get Bin Laden! Not even concerned about Bin Laden anymore it appears. Or did they earlier kill him? And are keeping his memory "alive" to continue frightening naive Americans into accepting the "necessity" of increasing police state "Homeland Securty" to protect us from the largely invented global reach of terrible "Al Queda?" You know, those "suicidal" Muslims who "hate our freedom" as George believes. (George Jr., America's expert spokesman who on national TV the other day, blurted out "persecute" when his script writers had written "prosecute.")

"Awkward" or not, Ritter, a TRUE expert about Iraqi WMD, is courageously protesting such "collective punishment" insanity, so why not quote him, whatever other alleged "misdeeds" are now being used to hopefully discredit or "blackmail" him into silence? Let's have more courage on our parts! Stop an insane, unnecessary war if we can, or at least try.

Why do (probably) hundreds of thousands more of innocent people have to die or be maimed to satisfy the blood lust of these amoral sadists temporarily in control of our American government and Israel's government? Stealing Iraq's oil is just EXTRA "frosting" on the war mayhem "cake" these amoral madmen want to "bake."

I beg to differ sir, I am not a liar at all, though it does appear that you are. Though I must admit your phrase "a distorted evaluation born of an ideological fixation" is quite good. How many nights did you stay up thinking that one up.  I stated that "In essence you are supporting the Bush Administrations claim that criticism of Bush is in fact support for terrorism." Have you forgotten the statement made on national TV by Mr. Ashcroft?  He stated that those of us who did not support Mr. Bush were in fact supporting terrorism. (I don't have the actual quote but I am sure you remember it well)   It was in fact Mr. bush's man Mr. Ashcroft that stated that criticism of Bush was support for terrorism - plain and simple!

Look up the definition of a dictator. What rights does he have that have not been extended to Mr. Bush in the name of fighting terrorism? And in fact, this is exactly the way Adolph Hitler rose to power. The fact is that Bush has repeatedly stated that he has the right to designate any American an "enemy combatant" (A phase that his administration made up by the way) and strip him of his constitutional rights, without recourse or appeal. And he has done so to at least 2 Americans so far. But we really don't know how many because his administration is keeping everything secret. Without transparency there can be no accountability, without accountability there can be no freedom. It is this threat of arrest and conviction without trial or appeal that has terrorized  millions of people around the world throughout history. The above are facts, they have nothing to do with my "ideology"  You cannot be accused of slander when stating the facts. As far as suggesting I am unbalanced because I call Bush a de facto dictator is idiotic. Given that thousands of people around the world have made similar statements (many of them publicly bye the way) makes your questioning my sanity even dumber. But lets get back to the "world of real objects" - is calling me names  the best you can offer in response? - it is you that needs reconciliation. Again I ask you, how many years have you served our great country? Oh and why isn't your "opinion" the irrational, idologically twisted one? You presented no facts in support of your position. Just because you say so doesn't cut it.
