Terror Tidbits By J.R. Nyquist Earlier today I was reading several unread downloads (sent to me) when I ran into a nameless fragment, titled "Russia and OKC." The author of this note offers a tantalizing theory about a connection between the Oklahoma City Bombing and Russia. Considering what Venezuelan Major Juan Diaz has revealed about connections between Latin American communists and al Qaeda, what follows may be another piece in a much larger puzzle. Go back to the year 1995. The Republicans have just taken Congress. Bill Clinton is on the ropes at the end of a scandal-ridden first term. "The Oklahoma City bombing ... did have a political result," argues the unnamed author of the download. In this event terrorism reversed the conservative "revolution" of 1995 "and gave Bill Clinton a second term of office." (This idea can also be found in Ambrose Evans-Prichard's book, The Secret Life of Bill Clinton. Prichard quotes Clinton as saying that the Oklahoma City bombing politically rescued his presidency.) The author of this note then quotes from page 346 of Anatoliy Golitsyn's prophetic 1984 book, New Lies for Old:
The communist connections to Bill Clinton are many, and sometimes quite obvious. The peace movement that Clinton supported in the late 1960s was a communist front operation. His trip to Moscow and to Prague in the winter of 1969-70 was significant. His strident and ambitious wife, Hillary, passed through a communist milieu during the early period of her career. Given the untrustworthy political background of these people, how could they have found political acceptance in the United States? How could Bill Clinton have been elected president? The mysterious author of the download offers a very apt explanation: "As I once remarked to a friend," he explained, "'I haven't changed much since 1960. I don't even have violent inclinations. Where did everyone go? It looks like the masses took a hard left turn somewhere back there!'" A great change has taken place. No doubt there has been a leftward slip, but only in part. One must not forget hedonism, apathy and ignorance. The slogan here is: "I'm having fun, I don't care and I don't want to know." This has left the field open to a small but elite army of communists and fellow travelers who coordinate with foreign powers. In political warfare numbers are not what organizes and leads the fight. An intelligently directed few, disciplined and strategically guided can have an impact all out of proportion to their numbers. This dovetails with the Leninist ideal of the professional revolutionary cadre leading a conspiratorial organization to overthrow "the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie." What tactics would this party use to extend its influence and prune back conservative or counterrevolutionary influences? Any high-profile event that features "patriotic" persons as fascists or racists would have great propaganda value. The unnamed author wonders if there might have been Russian involvement behind the Oklahoma City bombing. "Thinking there wasn't any," he explains in the download, "I got a shock. On reading through Charles Keys' Final Report from his ill-fated independent investigation, on pp. 288-289, I was surprised to find an account which has the tone of the above quotation from Golitsyn:
In reaction to this snippet from Key's report, the anonymous writer comments: "If this is true, it is evidence to support Golitsyn’s warning that attempts will be made to alienate and demonize conservatives. And if it is true, a Soviet agent planted the idea. If they originated the scheme, they have to be the manipulators [behind the scenes]." Andreas Strassmeir was a German intelligence officer involved on the neo-Nazi side of Tim McVeigh's little world. He was reportedly seen with McVeigh on several occasions. He was also sensitively connected to politically prominent Germans. The unnamed author writes of Strassmeir:
None of this proves anything, of course. But it is suggestive and tantalizing. It even deserves a follow-up. To date I have found nothing further on Michelle Torres. If anyone knows where she is, please e-mail me, JRNyquist@aol.com. Former communists are full of interesting details. Ms. Torres should prove no exception. The unnamed author of the download fragment offers yet further, personal testimony on the nature of America's security problem.
I cannot count the number of stories, like this one, that I've heard in recent years. If we had competent strategic leadership on the intelligence side (because intelligence must be strategic in its oversight, and not merely passive in its collection), there would be more room for optimism. But the fact is, we have suffered one strategic defeat after another in the secret war because we have accepted enemy claims, enemy propaganda -- new lies for old.
